About me

Hey! My name is Emma and I live in rural England with my wonderful husband and tiny Cockerpoo called Taco. I spend a lot of my free time exploring the countryside and national parks. It’s always a good weekend if I get to walk another amazing trail as well as ending up in the local pub! I’m currently writing around a full time job which is sometimes a challenge, but when you love something you make it work.

Growing up, I have always been a creative and explored this in both writing and other art forms. It’s taken me several years to build my confidence and refine my writing technique to be able to publish my first ever novel. It’s a very surreal feeling and has been a steep uphill battle to get here, but I’m so glad I managed to make it!

In August of 2023, I sat down to write a novel that was a love letter to the horror and thriller genres in fiction as well as my passion for Greek mythology. In all the years I’d tried and failed to write books that felt like they were truly ‘me’, this one succeeded where all others had failed. I had the most amazing and yet difficult time of my life writing The Composition of a Crow which makes it all the more special. It’s literally forged from my own blood, sweat and tears. I don’t think I truly understood the expression until I delved into the most ambitious project I’ve completed to date.

I can’t exactly pin point where my obsession with the world of Greek Mythology and the classics began. It’s as though it’s always been a passion of mine. I love the fact that the Gods and Goddesses are imperfect and the Greeks weren’t looking up to figures that did no wrong. The conflicts between the people and their Gods and Goddesses were refreshing to read about and even now I learn something new with every myth I explore.

I came across the Greek Myth of Apollo and the crow years ago, and I was intrigued by the volatility of the relationship between the two. Apollo’s anger scorching the crow black and yet not deterring it from remaining by his side as a loyal servant always struck me as a story worth exploring. I wanted to apply the myth to a modern setting to showcase how relevant the themes from mythology are in our reality even now.

My goal is to continue to explore many societal themes that are prevalent today through the classics. Hopefully in a way that when you finish a novel it makes you see a situation or theme from a new and refreshing perspective.
